GTA to pay HS teachers for shutdown period
SNS, 2 January 2018, Darjeeling: Chairman of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Board of Administrators, Binoy Tamang,today claimed that higher secondary teachers' salary for the three months of Hill shutdown that is still pending would be paid,while approval letters for 429 higher secondary teachers will be given soon.
In a press release he issued late in the evening, Mr Tamang said that the step was being taken by the GTA Education Department.
'Teachers have not been paid their salary for the period of the three months when the strike happened dudring the agitation, and they have been facing a lot of problems, and keeping this in mind, the higher secondary school teachers will get their pending salary within this week," he said.
"Apart from this, after the GTA was formed, a total of 429 higher secondary school teachers had been appointed, but their approval letter had not been given to them due to which they had to go through a lot of problems. Even though the GTA tried, it could not distribute the approval letters. As such, I will distribute the approval letters personally within the second week of this month," said Mr Tamang.
The press release also stated that for all this, Mr Tamang, along with the GTA Education in-charge Amar Rai, the District Inspector of Schools, would have a meeting very soon.
