Cuffs on two for sexual abuse - Tutor held after girl's suicide; teacher for misbehaviour with students

Sujan Mondal after the arrest
TT, Raiganj: Two teachers of North and South Dinajpur districts have been arrested for alleged sexual exploitation of and misbehaviour with girl students .
Sujan Mondal, a resident of Beltara village in Kumarganj, was arrested by Balurghat police after it was found during investigation that he had sexually exploited a Class X student who used to take tuitions from him.
The police said the girl, who was a resident of a village under Balurghat police station, had committed suicide at her home on November 25. Her father works as a day wage worker in Gujarat and she used to stay at home with her mother and brother.
"She was good in studies and despite financial constraints, her parents had allowed her to take private tuitions. She used to go to Sujan's house for tuitions," said a police officer.
The girl's mother and brother had gone out to bring back their cattle, when she hanged herself at home.
Surajit Ghosh after the arrest
"During the probe, we searched her books and recovered a chit which appeared to be a suicide note. She mentioned in the note how Sujan used to exploit her during tuitions," said the officer.
As the police started a search, Sujan went into hiding. A case was also registered against him at Balurghat police station.
On Wednesday, the police came to know that he was hiding at Thakurpura, village near his home.
"Around 2pm, he took a motorcycle and tried to escape from the village. We were on alert and could catch him on the road," said another police officer.
Surajit Ghosh, a teacher at Dalimgaon Nimna Buniadi Vidyalaya under Kaliaganj police station of North Dinajpur, was arrested on Tuesday evening. He was accused of behaving indecently with some girl students, touching them unnecessarily and showing them lewd video clips.
Ghosh was arrested after a sub-inspector of schools had filed a complaint against him.
He was produced in the additional district and sessions judge 2 court and remanded in police custody for five days.
Ashish Sarkar, Ghosh's lawyer, said his client had been falsely implicated in the case.
"He had disagreements with some teachers over administrative issues. That is why false charges have been brought against him," he said.
