Darjeeling seminar highlights historical legacies and cultural connections between India and Tibet

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, 25 AUGUST 2023: St Joseph's College, Darjeeling, on Friday held a seminar on 'India and Tibet: Historical Legacies and Cultural Connections. 
Principal of the College Fr. Donatus Kujur welcomed the three resource persons who were Ven. Geshe Monlam Tharchin, Youdon Aukatsang and Tashi Dhondup. Assistant Professor Sharddha Shah spoke on the religious and philosophical exchanges between India and Tibet. 
In their talk the three Tibetan representatives focused on the various aspects of the historical and cultural relations between India and Tibet, such as the Nalanda traditions, Silk Route in Kalimpong, commercial exchanges and called for solidarity with the cause of the Tibetans among the younger generation. 
The speakers also expressed their gratitude to the people and the Government of India for their support to the Tibetans. 
The speakers from the Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamsala, were part of a campaign to visit different universities and colleges in Orissa, West Bengal and Sikkim to discuss and debate on critical issues related to Tibet. 
The larger contours of India-Tibet- China relations from the point of view of global politics and issues of the Tibetan refugees were also discussed.
