Visit of Their Majesties, the King and Queen of Bhutan to India (October 31 - 03 November, 2017)

Rajesh Sharma, KalimNews, November 01, 2017। The King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Her Majesty the Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck and His Royal Highness Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, are visiting India from 31 October-3 November, 2017.

His Majesty, the King of Bhutan met the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who hosted a dinner in honour of Their Majesties. External Affairs Minister of India Smt. Sushma Swaraj called on His Majesty, the King of Bhutan. The Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Senior Ministers and officials will call on His Majesty, the King of Bhutan during the visit. The leaders exchanged views on bilateral cooperation as well as other issues of mutual interest. They recalled the unique and historical ties of friendship and understanding that exist between the two countries.

His Majesty the King of Bhutan and the Prime Minister of India expressed satisfaction at the excellent state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to advance these exemplary relations across diverse sectors of cooperation. His Majesty the King conveyed appreciation for the invaluable support that the Government of India provides for Bhutan’s socio-economic development.

The two sides agreed to celebrate in the year 2018 the golden jubilee of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries in a befitting manner. The President of India extended an invitation to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan to pay a State visit to India during the golden jubilee year. His Majesty the King of Bhutan accepted the invitation.

The meetings were held in a very warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of mutual trust and understanding that characterize the exceptionally friendly ties between the two countries. The visit of Their Majesties to India marks an important milestone in the close and friendly relations between the two countries and has contributed significantly towards further strengthening the profound friendship between India and Bhutan.
