Six tigers to be relocated in Buxa Tiger Reserve
AP & Agencies, 30 April 2017, Kolkata: Six tigers would be relocated to Buxa Tiger Reserve in north Bengal from Assam as part of a plan for augmentation of tiger population in the reserve which was approved by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
"The technical committee of the NTCA has given its approval for the augmentation of the tiger population in Buxa", state Chief Wildlife Warden Pradeep Vyas said. "Six tigers, two male and four female, would be relocated to BTR from neighbouring Assam", he said.
Asked about the timeframe for their relocation, he said, "It may be done within this year". The big cats, to be airlifted, would be put in an enclosure for seven days for acclimatisation and after that would be released in the reserve.
