Adoption condition... will be offered only one child ..they can accept or reject.
TT, New Delhi, April 30 (PTI): Couples opting for adoption will no longer be allowed to "pick and choose" and will be offered only one child by the national adoption body which they can accept or reject.
The rule will come into force from tomorrow.
Till now, prospective parents registered with the government's adoption portal were referred up to three children and could accept one.
"Under the new method, we will be able to refer all children in our adoption pool to an equal number of prospective parents," said Lt Col Deepak Kumar, the CEO of the Child Adoption Resource Authority.
Couples can participate in a maximum of three rounds of referrals before they move to the bottom of the waiting list. In each of these rounds, they will be sent a profile of a different child. The prospective parents will not be able to choose from the three children referred to them in these rounds, which will be held after a gap of at least 90 days.
Couples will have 48 hours to accept a child from the time his or her profile is sent to them.
