Repoll ordered in six booths
TT, May 15: The state election commission today ordered repoll in six booths in Pujali, Domkal and Raiganj municipalities despite the Opposition's demand that voting be held afresh in all 385 booths.
Fresh polls would be held tomorrow in three booths in Pujali, two in Domkal and one in Raiganj.
"We had demanded repoll in all 385 booths in the three municipalities. But the poll panel chief told us that the six booths had been identified on the basis of reports by the presiding officers," state BJP secretary Sayantan Basu said.
The BJP's youth wing today staged a demonstration outside the election commission's office. BJP Yuva Morcha president Tushar Ghosh and other party activists shouted slogans against the Mamata Banerjee government and Singh.
Police have arrested six persons over the past 24 hours for allegedly carrying weapons during voting in the three civic bodies yesterday. There were also reports of largescale intimidation of voters and damaging of EVMs. The police recovered a gun from one of the arrested persons, Mithun Ali, who was caught by local people in Raiganj.
