Hamro Party wants GTA to pass a resolution supporting the division of Bengal and the formation of Gorkhaland
Don't Miss
EOI, DARJEELING, AUGUST 10, 2024 : The Hamro Party has highlighted the inability of the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha, the ruling dispensation in the Darjeeling hills, to raise their voice to protest against the passage of a resolution in the West Bengal Assembly on August 5 against the division of West Bengal; terming it as unfortunate for the Gorkha community.
"Even though several days have passed since the resolution of undivided Bengal was passed, the ruling party (read BGPM) in the GTA has not even protested in the meeting of the GTA Assembly. It is unfortunate for the Gorkha race," HP central committee spokesperson, Shyam Gautam, said on Saturday.
He demanded that the BGPM, which runs the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, should pass a resolution in the GTA Sabha in favor of the division of West Bengal. "The BGPM should convene an emergency meeting of the GTA Sabha and pass a resolution in favor of an undivided Gorkhaland state.
Earlier, the current ruling party of the GTA Assembly had promised the hill dwellers that it would pass a resolution for Gorkhaland if they formed the board of the GTA Assembly, and place it before the West Bengal Government," Gautam said.
The HP spokesperson said like the TMC and the state BJP leaders unite against the division of Bengal, hill leaders of different political parties should stand together to demand a separate state of Gorkhaland.
"It has now become evident that political parties in West Bengal have set aside their differences to oppose the division of Bengal. The BJP members, too, had supported the resolution. We in the hills, however, are always divided over trivial issues.
The BGPM is the ruling dispensation in the hills, and they should take proactive steps to garner support and pass a resolution for a Gorkhaland state," Gautam said. The HP leader feared that the West Bengal government would rehabilitate displaced Bangladeshis in and around the hill regions.
"The opposition leader in the Assembly and BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari has urged the West Bengal government to pass a law to give asylum to Hindu Bangladeshi nationals as refugees in view of the ongoing turmoil in the neighboring country. We too demand that the GTA Sabha bring a resolution saying we will not allow Bangladeshi refugees," Gautam said.
