Locals complain to Kurseong SDO over poor state of public toilets

SNS, KURSEONG 10 APRIL: Local residents of Burdawan Road near Kurseong hospital under Kurseong Municipality area gathered to express their grievances and problems faced by them due to the deplorable condition of the toilet to the Kurseong SDO, Mr Debashish Chattopadya, who had visited the area on an inspection.
Mr Chattopadya is not only the SDO of Kurseong, he has been looking after the Kurseong Municipality as its administrator for a past few months. After joining the minicipality, he has been visiting different public places including hospitals, roads and toilets in the Kurseong Municipality area to take stock oldie situation on different aspects.
Accordingly, he visited and inspected the Kurseong Municipality's public toilet's situation yesterday.
According to the locals,they have been facing different problems due to the unkempt and deploable state of the public toilet for the past few years. They complained that there is no water in the toilets and the entire area surrounding the toilet is filled with garbages. Apart from this, almoost all the toilet pans are in broken state and they do not even have a proper place to place their foot. Besides these, there are cracks on the walls and the cements are peeling off.
The SDO said that recently the Municipality has received a fund of Rs 4 lakhs each for the repair works of five public toilets.
As soon as the tender works complete, they will start the maintenance work of the toilets, In the meantime, he also informed that in 2014-15 the Kurseong Municipality had sent a scheme to the CIA ammounting to Rs 23 lakh each for six toilets under a Swachha Paryatan Scheme but the fund is yet to be received.
