Rape bid & push from train
TT, Barasat, Jan. 24: A nurse returning home from work last night was allegedly thrown off a moving train when she resisted a rape attempt by two men and lay on the side of rail tracks for nine hours before some villagers spotted her.
The woman, the wife of a decorator and an ayah (nurse) by profession, was taken to a hospital around 7am. Hospital officials said the woman had told them she was thrown out of the train around 9.50pm yesterday.
"She has a deep cut on the scalp and several injuries in the hands and legs. Her right leg is fractured," a doctor said.
The woman has said she boarded a near-empty compartment in Hasnabad in North 24-Parganas.
"She told us there were a few men in the compartment and two of them were drunk. When the others got off, the two forced themselves on her and tried to rape her. When she resisted their attempts, they pushed her out. They also broke her mobile phone so she could not make calls," said Sanji Biswas, who was among those who took the woman to hospital.
Another villager, Habib Sardar, said they would not have spotted the bleeding woman had it not been for her cries.
"We first took her to a nearby block hospital. She was then referred to Barasat district hospital as her condition was serious," Sardar said.
A government railway police officer said they had started an investigation. "We will speak to her once her condition stabilises," the GRP officer said.
