Two Darjeeling girls top Hyderabad University

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 5 October 2016: Two girls from remote areas of Darjeeling Hill received Gold medals from University of Hyderabad, one in science stream and other in Economics. 

Anusha Rai of Peshok Tea Estate received Gold Medal in PG course of M.Sc in Molecular Microbiology while Pritten Sherpa of Bijanbari was awarded Gold Medal in the PG course of MA in Economics. 

Pritten was awarded the medal in absentia. 

Anusha Rai had her primary and secondary education from Saptashri Gyanpith of Kalimpong and completed ICSE from there while she passed ISC from Loreto Convent Darjeeling.

Previously she had received Gold Medal in B.Sc Bio Science from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of higher learning,Prashanti Nilayam. After that she joined University of Hyderabad for PG course and presently she is doing her research work for PhD degree in the same university.She wants to return home and pursue the research work in Darjeeling hills. 
Talking to KalimNews Anusha said that Gorkhas are capable of excelling in academics but it needs seriousness, dedication, perseverance and consistency. She said that as sons and daughters we have to feel for our parents, their sacrifice to us, their dream about us. 
She felt it was her duty to fulfill her parents dream. and she is on the course of success. 
Pritten Sherpa after completing primary education in Bijanbari passed Higher Secondary Examination from St. Teresa's Girls' H.S.School of Darjeeling and completed graduation in Economics from St. Joseph's College, Darjeeling. She also had received Gold medal in graduation from North Bengal University. 

Presently Pritten is doing MPhil degree in Economics, from Jawaharlal Nehru University and is thinking of pursuing her studies atleast by doing PhD. 
She told KalimNews that aiming high with hard work will lead anybody to success and this is her suggestion the the students of hills. 
Regarding University of Hyderabad, a Central University, she stated that it has a good environment for studies and is safe for all, there is no racial discrimination in and around the university and the city of Hyderabad. Many Gorkhas are studying here and doing research work, she added.
