SNS | Siliguri/ Kalimpong | 16 October, 2016:Darjeeling district administrative officials and police, were busy with traffic management throughout the day on the National Highway 10 at Bhuichaley Birik Dara, a vulnerable spot on the bank of the Teesta.
The stretch of the NH 10 at the vulnerable spot near Rambhi in Kalimpong is gradually sinking due to rain, erosion and landslips.
The administration is keeping a close eye on the situation and allowed movement of vehicles in ‘one way street’ manner since Thursday. In order to clear the rush of tourists, the authorities concerned with the task have been clearing debris after a landslide, and dumping material in the sinking part of the road to ensure traffic movement.
Notably, several tourists were stranded in traffic snarls for more than two hours every day due to heavy rain, landslides and the current traffic management system.
According to a senior police officer, traffic at Bhuichaley Birik Dara was moving smoothly in single way manner, though several hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road in the morning.

On Saturday, a team of police officers under the additional SP were seen on duty at the vulnerable spot keeping an eye on the condition of the road and also for properly managing the traffic.
