KalimNews, Siliguri, 11 September 2016: Two elephants were electrocuted at Kiranchandra Tea Estate, near Bagdogra around 15 km away from Siliguri. The incident occurred in the morning when a group of around 30 elephants entered the garden.
Local people found the bodies of the two dead female elephants. The calf and its mother along with the herd was crossing the Kiranchandra Tea garden towards forest. The calf slipped and on coming in contact with the live earth wire of a post was electrocuted. When the mother calf came to rescue the electric current passed on to it from its calf and both died on the spot.
