Mother killed trying to save girl from goons

TNN | Sep 12, 2016, BEHRAMPORE: A 38-year-old woman was murdered when she tried to stop three persons from abducting her daughter on Friday night in Murshidabad's Raghunathpur. The accused, who are still absconding, allegedly attacked her with a knife when she cried for help.

Police said prime accused Rehmat Sk was pressuring the girl to marry him. Snubbed repeatedly, Rehmat, along with two others, barged into her home around 10pm on Friday and tried to drag her out. Her mother Fatima Biwi, who was aleeping along with her three other kids, woke up and cried for help. The miscreants attacked her with a knife. Fatima's husband Shabiruddin Sk - a mason in Kolkata - was not present there.

The girl took shelter in their neighbour's home. Fatima was taken to Jangipur sub-divisional hospital, where she later died. Shamsergunj OC Samrat Fani said, "We are raiding possible hideouts."
