Transport dept to check speed limit
SNS | Kolkata | 18 September, 2016: State transport department has sought views from all stake holders for installing a speed limiting device in all commercial vehicles by 31 October.
State transport minister Suvendu Adhikari has convened a meeting scheduled for 22 September at Paribahan Bhavan in this regard with the representatives of commercial bus, taxi, truck and tourist bus owners.
Senior transport department officials will also be present at the meeting. The views of all stake holders will be sent to the Union ministry of road transport and highways. In January the Union ministry, in an attempt to curb road accidents, had directed all state governments to install the device on all commercial vehicles to keep a check speed limit.
The state government following the direction from the Union Ministry had directed all commercial vehicle owners to install the device in their vehicles so that maximum speed can be restricted to 80 km/hour. Two months ago, the Union ministry had wanted to know from the government the reason behind the failure for not installing the device in time. The government had failed the deadline twice.
