Police assault patient's kin in Darj district hospital

SNS, 16 September 2016, Darjeeling : Both the Darjeeling police and relatives of a critically admitted patient in Darjeeling Sadar hospital lodged a complaint vice versa on allegation of brawl and subsequent assault. Meanwhile, superintendent of Darjeeling Sadar hospital Mr Saikat Pradhan said that he has no information about the incident that took place last night.
According to reports, the relatives of a critical patient was attacked by seven police men after the latter found that their relatives, now identified as the son and another accompannying him were inside the female ward at around 11 a.m last night.
The injured duo raised allegation that the policemen were in a drunken state and did not entertain their explanation.
Speaking to media persons, the injured son, Mr Ashim Subba and another Mr Vivek Dewan said,"We brought Ashim's mother Jayanti Subba to the district hospital and was subsequently admitted in the female ward.
Since she was in a critical condition she had to be shifted in the ICU but as ICU herein was occupied so both of us were waiting at the female ward with the other members of the family discussing if she needs to be taken to Siliguri for further medical assistance."
`Around 10:30 pm, seven policeman entered the female ward and without any interrogation started hitting us mercilessly. Since our patient was in critical condition we avoided the situation. We have lodged a general diary against them in Sadar Police station here this afternoon."
On the other hand, a senior police officer has informed, "The duo argued with the state police in-charge and it turned into a brawl. We have lodged a complaint and the investigation is underway for the same."
