Partha upset at election commission
SNS | Kolkata | 18 September, 2016:Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee on Saturday alleged that the Election Commission has started revision of electoral roll without any discussion with different political parties of the state.
Chatterjee later told the reporters that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has asked all people's representatives of her party to ensure that genuine voters name are enrolled in the electoral roll and if there is any discrepancy they should immediately inform the party leadership.
It is learnt that during the decision making committee's meeting on Saturday at her Kalighat residence, Banerjee said that the Election Commission has taken this decision at the behest of BJP leadership. They are trying to spread communal tension and tamper the voter list.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi on Saturday was replaced by the party as the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Railways after his tenure came to an end. This is nothing new. After the tenure ends the chairman of the standing committee changes. Dinesh Trivedi completed his term this year so it was decided that Sudip Bandopadhyay will be nominated by the party as the chairman of Railway committee. Trivedi will be given other responsibilities, a senior Trinamool leader said.
According to sources in the party, however, the TMC leadership is still miffed with his statements made before the state Assembly polls earlier this year, specially on the Narada sting operation.
Earlier in March, when the Narada sting footage, purportedly showing some high-profile leaders taking cash, came out in the open, Trivedi had caused embarrassment to his party by suggesting those shown in the footage should sit at home till the time they come out clean of the charges levelled against them.
