Pak troops breach ceasefire at Uri.... Uri terror attack: NIA registers case
PTI, Srinagar, Sept. 20 : Pakistani troops on Tuesday violated the border ceasefire in the Uri sector of Kashmir, targeting Indian army positions with small firearms just two days after terrorists attacked an army camp in the same area.
However, there was no damage in Tuesday’s firing, army said.
“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing by small arms towards Indian positions in Uri sector this afternoon,” an army official said.
He said the firing from across the Line of Control took place between 1.10 pm and 1.30 pm.
The official said while there were no reports of any casualty in the firing, further details of the incident were awaited.
The ceasefire violation comes two days after four Jaish-e-Mohammad militants stormed an army base in Uri Sector, killing 18 soldiers and injuring several others.
All the four militants were also killed.
The terror attack has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
Srinagar, Sept 20 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday registered a case to probe Sunday’s terror attack at the army installation at Uri in Jammu & Kashmir in which 18 soldiers were killed and dozens others injured by four militants who stormed the base.
The NIA took over the investigation from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, which had registered a case on Sunday, and began collecting evidence available with the army formation at Uri, 102 km from here.
Apart from the arms and ammunition recovered, two mobile handsets and two GPS sets were also found on the four terrorists.
Official sources said the NIA team, which was now camping at Uri, would collect the DNA samples of the four unidentified terrorists, said to belong to the Jaish–e–Mohammad group.
Two of the four bodies are charred below the waist, they said.
The sources said while one GPS was damaged in the fire, the other was being examined to find out the route taken by the terrorists and whether they got local help.
The place where the attack took place is located barely 6 km from the Line of Control.
The NIA team would prepare a dossier and may make a formal request to Pakistan once the identity of the four was ascertained, the sources said.
The army has also instituted an inquiry into the attack with preliminary investigation suggesting the terrorists had entered the area at least a day before mounting the assault.
