Siliguri Devkota Sangh gen secy sacked over alleged misuse of funds

PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, Siliguri 8 Nov 2015: In the wake of a wave of allegations and counter allegations regarding misuse of funds among many institutions, the general secretary of Siliguri Devkota Sangh, a renowned Nepali literary organisation based in Pradhan Nagar, has been suspended on allegations of misusing organisation funds. This is probably the first time that any member of this organisation has been suspended on such a serious allegation. 
On Friday, an emergency meeting of members was held wherein as many as 102 allegations of fund misappropriation were levelled against Krishna Pradhan including seeking Rs 5 lakh in debt from the market. Organisation member Rajen Chhetri moved the allegations and seven among 11 members supported the decision to Pradhan suspend immediately. 
The meeting was presided over by the president Rudrakumar Adhikari in the presence of senior members such as M B Gajmer and Padam Chhetri. The members decided to appoint Gyanendra Dahal as the new general secretary of the Sangh. 
Dahal, who was the assistant general secretary, said, "I am happy to have been chosen as general secretary of one of the oldest and most renowned organisations of Siliguri. It is a prestigious and responsible post and I will put my all efforts to serve society and our community." 
When contacted, Pradhan said he had resigned from the due to his busy schedule even as he ruled out the allegations made against him.
