Electronic firecrackers take over Siliguri market

EOI, Siliguri 8 Nov 2015: Amid the buzz across the country on the ban or limited use of firecrackers during Diwali and Sikkim’s special initiative to “say no to firecrackers” citing adverse effects on environment and health, a special range of electronic firecrackers has taken over the markets of Siliguri.
The markets are abuzz with the electronic firecrackers that have become a hit among many. Prime markets including Bidhan Market, Seth Srilal Market and Hongkong Market among others have started displaying them along with a range of Chinese made LED tuni-bulbs and decorative items.
The electronic firecrackers can be purchased at a price range between Rs2,200 and Rs2,500, but shopkeepers revealed their customers are not concerned about the price after witnessing a demo of the items. The specially made firecrackers have to be plugged in to an electronic source and when switched on, manually or through remote, the sound produced imitates actual firecrackers perfectly. Some of the sounds are deafening but satisfies the essence of Diwali, especially with the prevailing ban on some favourite firecrackers. And to top it up, it produces no harmful pollutants, is less prone to fire-hazards and can be stored conveniently for the following year.
