GYASA formed in Delhi for Gorkha people in distress

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 14 July 2015: With an aim to form a formal Gorkha Association and unite Gorkhas living in and around Delhi a brain storming discussion with Delhi Police Nodal Officer was held today for the first time was at the office of Special Unit for Northeast Region (Delhi Police) in New Delhi.
Gorkhas now studying and residing temporarily and permanently in and around NCR attended this special session in the presence of Robin Hibu (IPS), Nodal Officer for North East Region. 
Nodal Officer Hibu made a power point presentation on initiatives taken by Delhi police for Northeast people at Delhi. 
The interactive session among the participants was very much warm and alive. Gorkha people representing different NGOS, employees associations, women activists and students of Delhi & NCR actively participated in the discussion and consented to resolve the following action plan. 
It resolved to formally constitute a non political organisation named Gorkha Youth and Students Association (GYASA) at Delhi. It also decided to have more interaction with Delhi police for Delhi Police for North East (DPNE) representatives from Gorkhas. 
The meeting also decided to mobilize all resources for encouraging brilliant Gorkha students. It also decided to endeavour for making the present Gorkha Bhavan more interactive for the welfare of Gorkhas in distress at Delhi and to have more support with other 8 northeast state students unions for common grievances at Delhi. 
The participants agreed to popularise NE Helpline 1093 and Facebook account of Delhi police for North East folks. 
It consented to start self defense training for Gorkha girls at Delhi with the help of Delhi police females self defense team immediately. 
It further decide to have a common annual Gorkhas Day at Delhi.
