New SKM committee holds maiden meet amid resignations

EOI, GANGTOK, 24 Jun 2015: The newly formed central executive committee of the opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha held its first meeting Wednesday at the party headquarter in Gangtok.
The meeting chaired by SKM Advisor and former Minister TM Rai had the presence of party president PS Golay, MLAs and committee members, as informed through a press release by party general secretary Birendra Tamang. The SKM, opposition in the SDF-led Sikkim Assembly, has been facing a lot of heat recently due to the internal turmoil generated by resignation of some top party leaders.
Wednesday’s meeting marked the first high-level discussion between the party’s top leaders following the recent debacle. The meeting discussed in length about the current political situation in the state and the party’s future plans.
Addressing the meeting, Golay asked the new executive committee members to handle their posts responsibly for the benefit of the party and the people of the state. He also urged the new committee members to maintain discipline and follow proper etiquette as the leaders of the state’s main opposition party. Emphasising that if a party member was dishonest, the people of the state would have to face hardship, Golay said the SKM would continue to work as a democratic party and keep its faith alive in democracy. “The main aim of the party is to free the state from corruption and pave a new way for a better Sikkim,” he added, while urging his party leaders and workers to be united and work hard to achieve the party’s goals.
