Spa in Siliguri raided for running sex trade, 8 arrested

EOI, Siliguri, 16 Nov 2014: Three women, including one from Thailand, and five men were arrested for allegedly running a prostitution racket out of a spa located at Sevoke Road, in Siliguri. 

The arrests were made on Saturday evening after an undercover operation at the spa. According to police sources, The owner of the spa, a 29-year-old local man, used to work at a call centre in Delhi after which he joined a spa in the capital run by Thai girls. As the Thai girls came to know about Siliguri and its flourishing business from him, they asked the man to help them open a spa in Siliguri. He agreed, but due to legal issues it was not possible for the business to be registered in the name of the Thai girls, so the business was registered in the name of the man. He was paid around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 monthly along with some commissions by the Thai owners. 

“The arrested along with four customers and the owner would be presented before the Jalpaiguri district court tomorrow,” said Siliguri police commissioner Jag Mohan.

“There ae reports of sex trade in hotels and luxury apartments of the city, which serves as a gateway to the northeastern states and is also close to the borders with Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh,” he further added.
