14 ward panchayat members in Sikkim removed from post

SNS, Gangtok, 29 September 2014: The Rural Development department under the Sikkim Panchayat (amendment) Act 2010 has removed 14 ward panchayat members and one zilla panchayat member through a notification issued on September 19.
Before the Rangang-Yangang by-election, the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) president and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling had announced action against panchayats in the constituency that acted against the party by supporting Independent candidate Rup Narayan Chamling, the CM’s brother.
The zilla panchayat member removed from the post is Meena Maya Limboo from the Sripatam Yangang territorial constituency. The post that will lie vacant there will be filled through a by-election, the notification said. 
The panchayat members losing their posts are Sonam Lepcha and Bhim Bahadur Chettri from Kolthang Tokdey, Man Maya Gurung from Niya Mangzing, Sonika Lepcha, Gopi Das Pokhrel, Manoj Rai, Aita Hang Limboo and Sonam Tamang from Sripatam Gagyong, Leela Kumari Rai, Man Bahadur Shanker, Kul Bahadur Gurung, Dali Maya Gurung and Sashi Kala Gurung from Yangang-Rangang and Yap Tshering Bhutia from Ravong Sangmo.
