Siliguri cops go all out against sex rackets
SNS, Siliguri, 30 June 2014: Police today said the arrest of 10 persons in connection with a sex racket in Siliguri on Saturday could be just the tip of the iceberg.
The cyber cell under the detective department of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested the 10 persons for allegedly operating a flesh trade racket from an apartment in a township here.
The persons operated through a website, www.siliguricallgirls.com, police said.
Police said the arrest was just the beginning, and that they are conducting more raids in the town.
“Police have been taking steps against flesh trade in Siliguri.Being a big town, Siliguri has a floating population, as many people, including tourists, come here and go. Raids are on to crack such rackets," Siliguri additional deputy commissioner of police, K Sabari Raj Kumar, said.
Among the 10 arrested on Saturday was a student, who was allegedly the main supplier of women, two clients, and five women.
According to the police, the trade was going on in a flat at Uttarayan Township for the past two years.
"The two clients are from Uttar Pradesh and police will also take action if outsiders or tourists are involved in this illegal
trade.”
“We would like to give a message to the people, including students and the young generation, to stay away from such activities," Mr Raj Kumar said.
A sex racket being operated through a website is something new to Siliguri, and another shocker the town witnessed was the involvement of a student of the town in the trade.
