Father kills son in Gangtok

EOI, Gangtok, 30 June 2014: A 59-year-old man named Prakash Subba allegedly hacked his son Yogesh Subba (28) to death with a khukuri Sunday night in lower Burtuk.
Police sources said the accused is a retired assistant sub-inspector of the IRB, a unit of the Sikkim Police. They said the incident took place around 8.30pm and Prakash voluntarily surrendered at the Gangtok Sadar PS, confessing to the crime.
During interrogation, Prakash said he had got fed up with his son’s behaviour as Yogesh used to regularly assault him and his wife.
Yogesh had brought home some friends of his last night to watch football on TV and his father had objected to this, leading to a heated discussion. In a sudden fit or rage, Prakash took out his khukuri and started attacking his son, a married but unemployed man.
The victim was rushed to the STNM Hospital, but he could not be saved. Prakash has been arrested and a case of murder registered against him.
