Stabbing incident in Junction area, accused arrested

Ujjal Bhattacharyya, EOI, Siliguri, 18 Jun 2014: The Pradhan Nagar police today arrested Gurung Busty resident Deepak Chhetri for attacking his companion with a sharp weapon at the Siliguri Junction area Tuesday night. Police sources said Chhetri was produced at the Siliguri court this morning and has been sent to jail custody.

Chhetri reportedly got involved in an argument with a man named Raju Das following which he stabbed him with a sharp weapon. Das is undergoing treatment at a private nursing home and has sustained severe injuries in his abdomen and arms. Sources said Das and Chhetri are both employees of a private bus ticket counter. The two got involved in a heated conversation for some reason and Chhetri stabbed his colleague in a fit of rage.

Das’ family lodged an attempt-to-murder case against Chhetri and he was subsequently arrested from his house last night. Pradhan Nagar police sources said the matter is under investigation.
