‘Extremely’ hot and dry weather to continue

SNS, Kolkata, 21 April 2014: The mercury is expected to shoot up in the next 48 hours, making daytime all the more harder to endure, predicted the Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre. There is no possibility of rain in the next two days.
“There will be an increase in temperatures in the next 48 hours. Dry and hot air will continue to blow as well, " said Mr G C Debnath, director, Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre.
A loo-like wind is already blowing in the city, leaving Kolkatans reeling under the extreme heat. This northerly wind is blowing in from the neighbouring states of  Odisha and Jharkhand.
Consequent to this, people in the city today witnessed weather very familiar to north India. Throughout the day dry and hot wind made the city dwellers complain of a burning sensation in the nose and the eyes.
Today, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.1 degrees Celsius (four degrees above normal) while the corresponding  humidity was quite low ranging between 25 to 41 per cent. Usually, humidity in Kolkata hovers around 50 to 80 per cent.
