Re-polling ends peacefully in Pradhan Nagar and Dhupguri

Prashant Acharya, EOI, 21 April 2014: Re-polling at booth number 29 at Vidhyasagar School in Pradhan Nagar witnessed 72.9% of voting, where 745 people out of total 1027 voters practiced their democratic right, braving sunny and scorching weather.
The polling remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported, according to commissioner of Siliguri police Jag Mohan, who was present at the booth along with his force.
The re-polling in the Vidhyasagar school polling station had to be conducted as the EVM on April 17 malfunctioned, while various political parties also demanded for a re-poll. Following the demand, the Election Commisison had decided to conduct the re-polling today.
Jagmohan said the polling was peaceful as the security measurement was tight and he himself remained there during the polling period. Though there are 13 candidates contesting for this Lok Sabha election, only CPIM candidate Saman Pathak was seen at the polling station.

The re-polling process at the booth number 15/195 of Dhupguri assembly constituency under Jalpaiguri parliamentary constituency was conducted peacefully today amid tight security. The booth’s voter list enumerates 452 electors in total.
Ignoring the blistering sun and high temperature most of the voters attended the booth and practices their franchise. Though an old woman, Mira Bhowmick, fell ill at the booth due to the soaring temperature and was admitted to the Dhupguri hospital.
The electors of the particular booth could not cast their votes on April 17 due to a mechanical error caused in the electronic voting machine. The EC had previously decided to reorganise polling at the booth on April 19 but later it was deferred to April 21.
