
CM cash for kin of Hill martyrs
SNS, Darjeeling, 5 February 2018: Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha (GJMM) leader Binoy Tamang today said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will pay homage to martyrs who died in the recent Gorkhaland agitation, while also giving their family members monetary compensation during her visit here that begins tomorrow.
The CM is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow and stay in the Hills till 13 February.
In a press release he issued in the evening here today, Mr Tamang said, "The West Bengal chief minister has agreed to our demand, and on 7 February, she will pay homage to the martyrs and also hand over monetary compensation to the family of the deceased."
Morcha leaders have asked constituency leaders to bring the family members- the wife or mother or unmarried daughter of the martyrs to Chowrasta in the town that day.
The names of the martyrs mentioned in the press release include Bimal Sashankar of Goke, Mahesh Gurung of Relling, Sunil Rai of Kaijaley, Tashi Bhutia of Sonada, Suraj Bhushal of Tungsung, Samir Gurung of Singamari, Ashok Tamang of Lewis Junilee, Asish Tamang of Sukhia Pokhari and Dawa Tshering Bhutia of Pedong.
