Traffic woes in Kurseong continue unabated

EOI, Kurseong, 9 January 2014:  The problem of traffic jams on Kurseong’s roads due to an improper traffic management system continues to haunt town. There are long queue of vehicles stranded across town every day.
This has lead to inconvenience and delays for town residents and commuters passing through the place. A driver named Sanjay Tamang said not only do passengers suffer, but drivers too face huge problems due to the regular traffic jams.
“Earlier we used to go to Darjeeling 2-3 times a day from Kurseong, but now it is difficult to make even a single trip as traffic congestions have become almost a regular feature on this stretch of NH-55,” lamented an aggrieved Tamang.
To ensure the town is free from traffic jams, the heads of various administrative bodies of Kurseong including the municipality had jointly held meetings and decided to take immediate measures regarding the traffic problem.
However, no new changes are visible till date. As per police sources, all problems have piled up due to lack of a proper parking place as there is no legal parking area in town.
When asked, an official from Kurseong municipality said the GTA initiated multiplex building with parking facility is under construction and will be handed over to the municipality once completed. However, he said the multiplex may take another one and a half years to become functional.
