Sikkim aid to victims

Nirmal Mangar, TT, Gangtok, Jan. 8: The Sikkim government has issued a notification here today stating that the compensation given to victims of acid attack, rape, human trafficking and child abuse would be raised.
The aid is given under the Sikkim Compensation to Victims or his Dependents Scheme that started in 2011. The government has raised the compensation package to an acid attack victim from Rs 30,000 to Rs 3 lakh.
The compensation given to a rape victim has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. “The compensation for victims of human trafficking has been doubled. Earlier, the amount was Rs 25,000. Minors who have been subjected to sexual abuse will get Rs 1 lakh instead of Rs 20,000,” said a source.
“All claims will be examined by the district legal service authority which will make recommendations to the state legal service authority for deciding the quantum of compensation,” said a senior official.
