Locals want BJP to fulfill promises

SNS, KALIMPONG, 31 MAY 2019: People have slowly started raising questions about the unfolding situation in the hills after Darjeeling town's high drama over the no-trust vote in the civic-body. While, MPs and MLAs joining the BJP are putting forth their focus on the shuffle of the civic-body of the hills, the party which bagged 4,23,443 votes in the Lok Sabha elections should start focusing on the greater goals rather than putting in efforts on small are as like the 'municipality', local people here feel.
"Civic commissioners joining the Morcha or BJP directly or indirectly, means the same but the alliance should now start putting pressure on BJP" so that they work quickly and fulfill the promises made prior to the election," said a person, requesting anonymity.
However, the alliance of BJP based on the hills believe that MP Raju Bista's tenure is five long years, which is enough to fulfill the assurances, while just a week has passed since the declaration of the election results. It maybe mentioned that Anit Thapa, the present chairman of the GTA, had  stated yesterday that around 10 signatures have been forged in the Darjeeling Municipality issue of no-confidence.
However, Topden Bhutia, the youth chief coordinator of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (Gurung faction) replied, demanding an immediate meeting of the no-confidence motion, to get a clear idea of the matter.
"If they think that the signatures are forged then they should call a meeting soon to understand who is with whom. The truth is that ward councilors came forward to support the GJMM respecting peoples mandate," said Mr Bhutia.
The alliance of BJP eventually wants BJP to fulfill the two promises, which BJP president Amit Shah too had made during election campaign.
When asked about the Kalimpong civic-body, which has already seen enough changes and drama. Mr Bhutia said that they don't believe in forcing ward commissioners to join them.
"We have not taken any initiatives here in the Kalimpong Municipality. The commissioners should feel about the peoples mandate and we don't believe in forcing someone. If they wish to join us, we will gladly welcome them but we will not force anyone." said Mr Bhutia.
