Saheed Gold Cup football tournament to be organised
SNS, Kurseong 26 December 2013: Kurseong Gorkha Hill Sports Association in conjunction with the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, GTA is organising the first Saheed Gold Cup Invitational Knock out Football Tournament beginning from 12 January next at Goethals Memorial School Ground in the town.
The winner and runner up of the tournament would be awarded cash prizes of Rs one lakh and Rs 50,000 each respectively, along with citations and trophies.
As per organising committee, the national teams like BSF Jalandhar, Gorkha Brigade Lucknow, 58 GTC Shillong, Africa XI Kolkata, North Bengal Armed Police, Kanchanjunga FC Siliguri, Sinalchi FC Namchi Sikkim, Super Star Darjeeling, UKFC Kurseong and Kurseong super league champion, Trishuli Football Club, Share Football Club Kalimpong and some teams from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh are expected to participate in the tournament. Kurseong Gorkha Hill Sports Association keeps organising various sports activities every year which include Kurseong League Championship, Women’s Football tournaments, Men’s Veteran Tournament, Cricket Tournament, Cricket Coaching Camps for Under-14 boys under the guidance of Cricket Association of Bengal, Independence Day Football and Marathon.
Besides, Badminton, Carom, Volleyball and Chess tournaments for the boys and girls are also held for the development of sports in the region and for benefiting the people of Kurseong.
