Promise for tea sector
TT, Siliguri, Dec. 13: North Bengal development minister Gautam Deb inaugurated Indian Tea Forum here today and promised all help from the state government for the development of the industry in the region.
“The erstwhile Left Front government had pathetically failed to improve the tea industry. Our government, since its formation, has been keen on the development of the tea sector, which is the largest industry in north Bengal. It is evident that right now, large-scale investments cannot be attracted to north Bengal. We should try and work together to improve the tea industry,” said Deb.
The minister also said there was an immediate need to boost the brand of north Bengal tea.
The third edition of the two-day event is being conducted to chalk out ways to improve the tea industry in north Bengal and explore new markets for the brew produced in the region. The event is organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries in association with Tea Board of India.
