Sikkim Goes on solidarity for the creation of Gorkhaland

Prabin Khaling, KalimNews, Gangtok, 10th August 2013: To express solidarity in favor of the creation of a separate state for the people of Darjeeling, Tarai and Dooars, Gorkha Jagaran Samaj, (GJS) a Sikkim based apolitical society of Gorkhas in Sikkim, will march for Darjeeling on the 14th of August 2013 from Jorethang, south Sikkim .
The ongoing Gorkhaland agitation spearheaded by GJMM for the separate state, out of West Bengal is a legitimate demand of the people of these areas, and the oldest of the demands for separate states within Indian Union.
The meeting held at the Press Club of Sikkim, GJS seriously deliberated upon various issues pertaining to the legitimacy of the demand for the proposed separate state and justification to its creation.
GJS feels, as Sikkim is as yet, the real owner of the land, Sikkim needs to stand firm and speak out open in favor of the separate state for the people of Darjeeling, Tarai and Doors. GJS after careful consideration over the issue has resolved to march afoot to Darjeeling to express solidarity with the people of Darjeeling and Dooars in their quest for the incorporation of their territories as one of the federal constituents of the Indian Union, as there have been many historical, legal and the constitutional basis to seek distinct regional identity within the federation guaranteed under the constitution of India.
As such, GJS appeals all concerned to the cause of Gorkhaland to march along with and join the solidarity campaign for the movement for the separate state of Gorkhaland within the Union of India
