GLP cadres resign en masse to participate in statehood agitation

EOI, KURSEONG, 4 Aug 2013: A large number of Gorkhaland Personnel, the voluntary cell of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, have resigned en masse from their jobs in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration to participate in the statehood struggle.
The Kurseong GJM leadership today welcomed several GLP members who were working at various government offices in Kurseong and Kalimpong, mainly as security guards. They assembled at the motor stand area and chanted slogans in support of Gorkhaland.
A GLP member said, “We have resigned just like our chief Bimal Gurung who resigned as GTA chief for the paramount demand of Gorkhaland and we too are ready to sacrifice ourselves and fight till our last breath.”
GJM youth leader Subash Pradhan said the party welcomes and respects their stance, adding the personnel have been sent to their respective camps to prepare for the agitation.
Since its inception, the GLP has been trained well by various ex-army personnel in the art of warfare.
The personnel have even helped curb transportation and sale of illegal liquor. When the GTA was set up in 2011, several GLP volunteers had been given jobs in the new setup, mainly as security personnel.
