Govt searching for new GTA chief

EOI, 4 Aug 2013: The state  government has been searching for ways to keep the Gorkhaland Territorial Agreement alive and valid following the resignation of GJM chief Bimal Gurung from the post of chief executive of the council. Sources from the state home ministry have said the government proposed GTA deputy chief executive Ramesh Alay to take up the post, but he has declined.
According to rules, the chief executive post cannot be left vacant for more than one month. Hence, the state government has started mulling over choosing someone else to take up the post. Sources said one of the three nominated GTA members may be approached for the task. Meanwhile, if all members resign from the GTA within one month, the state government may even hold fresh elections.
