Land losers to be rehabilitated: Karki
SNS, Yangyang, 17 July 2013: The state minister for the rural management and development department, Mr C B Karki, has assured that the land losers who have given lands for the Sikkim University campus at Yangyang would be rehabilitated soon.
He is also the MLA from Yangyang constituency located in the South District of Sikkim.
He gave this assurance to the villagers after he had met the land losers, the South District officials, HRD officials and the panchayats.
The meeting was held last Tuesday to evolve a consensus on the proposed rehabilitation package.
The minister assured that each of 29 land donors would be provided with a house under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing
Mission.
He said that they have been provided with half an acre of plot each near the proposed campus site at Upper Yangyang area by the South district administration
last month.
The meeting held at Yangang Tourism guest house is understood to have discussed the resettlement and other related issues in details.
Mr Karki said the process of site allotment for 57 others would be completed by 15 August.
Regarding water supply for the campus, the minister informed that water would be drawn either from Kaw Khola Lingee or from river Teesta by way of pumping.
“Land donors would be provided with all the contracts like fencing, boundary wall and the like during the first phase of construction,” he said.
It is further learnt that the existing Mandir within the campus site would be shifted to a nearby place.
