GJMYM to hold public rally
SNS, Darjeeling, 17 July 2013: The GJMM’s youth affiliate, Gorkha Jan Mukti Yuva Morcha (GJMYM) would take out a rally tomorrow in Darjeeling to demand Gorkhaland to mark the second anniversary of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) being signed two years ago.
The tripartite agreement was signed at Pintail Village near Siliguri on 18 July 2011 in the presence of the then Union home minister Mr P Chidambaram, the Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee and the GJMM chief Mr Bimal Gurung.
“The youths associated with the party will now plunge for the Gorkhaland demand. The fresh movement for the separate state will begin tomorrow through the rally. We have chosen the day to mark the second anniversary of the tripartite accord,” said the GJMYM president, Mr Priyabardan Rai.
“We have always stood by the demand for Gorkhaland. This is our paramount demand. The GTA is nothing more than an administrative instrument for development of the Hills,” he added.
He further said that they would organise several other meetings involving the youths across the Hills in the coming days to pump fresh life in the statehood demand.
“The next phase of the agitation for Gorkhaland will be decided later,”
he added.
It is, however, not learnt whether any senior leader of the party would be present at tomorrow’s rally.
The observers are of the view that the GJMM would go along with its strategy of continuing with the GTA and prodding its frontal organisations to go for stir for Gorkhaland.
