Man arrested for rape

SNS, SILIGURI, 25 APRIL: Police today arrested the accused in connection with the sexual abuse charge made by an American woman, a resident of Matigara. 

She is associated with a non-government organisation that is engaged in providing computer training to the local children of Balsan Colony. 

She has been residing there for the past six years, according to police. The woman lodged complaint at Matigara Police Station yesterday against one Dinesh Barman alias Jalu, a contractor, charging him with having sexually abused her. 

“She is supposed to have purchased the strip of land on which the institute is located from Dinesh. She lives in a two-storied building. We have seen her walking with Dinesh many times. 

A large number of police came here last evening. They questioned us about Dinseh’s whereabouts. We suspected something foul, but had no idea about what had actually happened,” said a neighbour of the woman, Mr Manik Barman. 

Asked to recount what had prodded her to lodge the FIR, the American woman refused to say anything. She insisted that she had informed police everything she had to say. “I cannot say anything more,” she said.
