Suvendu urges police to reopen 2024 Keshpur case

MP, August 11, 2026, Keshpur : Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday asked the Superintendent of Police of Paschim Medinipur district to prosecute those involved in framing BJP workers and functionaries in false cases during the reign of the TMC.

Adhikari said the Keshpur file regarding a 2024 incident when he was stopped while campaigning for the party should also be opened and those behind such an act be prosecuted as per law.

"I have asked the SP to withdraw all cases levelled against BJP functionaries jailed for months as well," he said, while speaking at a function to commemorate the death anniversary of revolutionary freedom fighter Khudiram Bose.

"As I speak, I can see many of those having faced brutalities for working on behalf of the BJP in past years sitting in the front row. Don't worry. I am asking the SP to prosecute those behind framing false cases against you and beating you. I am hereby asking the SP to open the file so that those behind such attacks are punished and identified," he said.

"I am asking the SP to reopen the file so that those who staged agitation against me during a democratic meeting of our party during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls are identified and action taken against them," the Chief Minister said.

Adhikari said Keshpur, a politically volatile area known for bombs and firings, was once known for one-party rule and did not get the fruits of development because of the cut money culture adopted during the rule of the TMC government.

Freedom fighters from undivided Midnapore, which was the soil of luminaries like Khudiram Bose and Matangini Hazra, did not receive adequate recognition during the Left Front and TMC rule.

Adhikari said his government would ensure that the contributions of freedom fighters such as Khudiram Bose and Matangini Hazra receive their due recognition.

The Chief Minister alleged that freedom fighters from the area did not receive adequate recognition during the Left Front and TMC rule and said the history of their sacrifices needed to be brought before the younger generation.

"We could not highlight how Khudiram had to die or how Matangini Hazra was killed while holding the national tricolour," he said.

Adhikari also announced plans to develop Khudiram Bose's ancestral home and establish a gallery dedicated to the revolutionary.

He said a light and sound laser show depicting Khudiram Bose's life and contribution would also be introduced.

"I received a phone call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the development of Khudiram Bose's ancestral house. The Union Home Minister wants to accord due respect to Khudiram Bose and other revolutionaries," he said.

The Chief Minister said the district magistrate would float a tender for the proposed gallery within the next three days and that work was expected to begin after the monsoon.

Adhikari said adequate funds would be allocated for the project and researchers and historians would be given an opportunity to contribute to the gallery's content.
