Previous governments in Bengal did not work with Centre for state's development: Suvendu

PTI, August 23, 2026, Kolkata: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday alleged that previous governments in West Bengal did not work with the Centre for the state's development.

Speaking at a programme of the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) here, Adhikari said West Bengal's "double-engine government" will now ensure that the state's development.

"Previous governments in West Bengal did not work with the Centre for the development of the state. The negativity of 50 years has ended, and our double-engine government will now ensure that the state advances," he said.

Maintaining that during the 34-year rule of the Left and the 15-year TMC dispensation, there was only opposition against the central government, Adhikari claimed that West Bengal suffered because of it. The chief minister said West Bengal has the required infrastructure, land and human resources for attracting investments.

"Bengal had everything, but not a double-engine government," he said, maintaining that in the 106 days of the BJP dispensation, his government made handing over of land parcels to the BSF for fencing of the porous India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal its priority. The Adhikari government has handed over 1,100 acres of land to the BSF for this purpose.

Urging the private investors to set up enterprises in West Bengal, he said the "climate has changed in the state. Adhikari assured them that land for setting up new projects in the state will not be an issue and that his government will provide all assistance for the purpose.

At the programme, the foundation stone for five brownfield expansion projects of the GRSE and Yantra India Ltd was laid by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
