Bengal BJP Likely to Restructure Organisation Ahead of Durga Puja

MP, August 1, 2026, Kolkata : The West Bengal BJP may undertake an organisational reshuffle ahead of the Durga Puja festival in October, with changes expected at the district, mandal and booth levels.

According to sources, one of the main objectives of the restructuring is to focus on strengthening the party's grassroots structure.

Since the saffron party emphasises the policy of "one person, one post", several BJP MLAs who recently joined the state Cabinet may be relieved of organisational responsibilities. However, this may not apply uniformly to all ministers holding organisational positions.

The reshuffle is likely to take place at the three organisational levels of districts, mandals and booths.

Sources said that there may be some changes in the existing state committee as well. Leaders against whom complaints have been lodged at the state level over the past two months, following the BJP's rise to power in the state, may be removed from their current positions.

The party may also remove controversial leaders from key organisational posts.

Several former Trinamool Congress grassroots leaders facing serious corruption charges have been trying to join the BJP since the change of government, but the state BJP leadership has instructed district leaders not to allow the entry of "undesirable elements".

The BJP has already formed district-level core committees to prevent the monopolisation of power. A 15-member core committee has been set up in every district, consisting of local MLAs, MPs and state office-bearers.

After the party came to power with a landslide victory, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya repeatedly said that the party has started a mechanism to ensure that Trinamool Congress activists are not inducted into the BJP.

The BJP is aiming to secure more than 35 of West Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats in the 2029 parliamentary elections.
