Income Tax Day Celebrated at Alipore's Dhanadhanya Auditorium


Baby Charaborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, July 25: The 167th Income Tax Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Friday at the Dhanadhanya Auditorium in Alipore. The event was organised by the Income Tax Department, West Bengal and Sikkim Region.

The ceremony was attended by West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, renowned tennis star Leander Paes, and Surabhi Varma Garg, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for the West Bengal and Sikkim Region. During the programme, outstanding Income Tax officers and staff members were honoured for their exemplary service and contributions.

Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya emphasised the importance of strong institutions and public trust in driving the nation's progress. She said that a culture of voluntary tax compliance and transparent administration is one of the key pillars of a developed economy.

Principal Chief Commissioner Surabhi Varma Garg reaffirmed the department's commitment to building a tax administration founded on trust, transparency, and fairness. She highlighted the crucial role of income tax in financing essential sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and national security.

The event also showcased the Income Tax Act, 2025, describing it as a landmark reform in India's taxation system. The new legislation aims to simplify the tax structure, enhance transparency, ensure greater fairness and efficiency, and encourage voluntary tax compliance among taxpayers.
