Amit Shah to Visit BSF Border Outposts Near Siliguri, Hold Administrative Meetings

PTI, July 16, 2026, Siliguri : Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Siliguri on Friday on a two-day visit.

He is scheduled to attend a number of programmes and meetings during his stay.

According to sources, he is expected to arrive at Bagdogra Airport from Delhi on July 17 at 9 pm.

From there, he will head to the BSF Frontier Headquarters at Kadamtala, where he will halt for the night.

The next day, he is scheduled to visit the Seema Chowki under the BSF's 18 No. Battalion at Jumagachh, Phansidewa, Siliguri, where he will attend several programmes, including the Prahari Sammelan, a tree plantation drive, the laying of foundation stones and the inauguration of various projects.

He will also hold an interactive session with BSF personnel.

From there, he will arrive at Uttarkanya, the branch secretariat of the West Bengal Government, at around 1 pm.

There, he is scheduled to hold two meetings regarding the implementation of the new criminal laws in West Bengal and another meeting on birth and death registration.

After the meetings, he will leave Uttarkanya at around 7 pm for Bagdogra Airport.

From there, he will travel to Kolkata.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to be present during the Home Minister's programmes.

According to sources, given the geographical importance of Siliguri and the security of the Chicken's Neck corridor, these meetings are considered important.

Sources said that many border areas under the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad were still unfenced.

During the previous Trinamool Congress government, the BSF had faced land-related difficulties while trying to construct border fencing.

The Home Minister is expected to address these issues.

Tight police security will be in place during the high-profile visit.
