West Bengal Government Finalises Portfolios for 41-Member Council of Ministers
A notification issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department detailed the responsibilities assigned to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and 40 other ministers.
The Chief Minister will retain charge of the Home and Hill Affairs, Land and Land Reforms, Relief and Refugee Rehabilitation, Power, Information and Cultural Affairs (I&CA), and Personnel and Administrative Reforms departments.
Any department not specifically allocated will also remain under his supervision.
Five ministers — Nisith Pramanik, Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania and Khudiram Tudu — were sworn in on May 9 during Rabindra Jayanti celebrations at Brigade Parade Ground, while 35 others took oath on June 1.
Nisith Pramanik has been assigned the North Bengal Development and Water Resources Investigation and Development departments.
Dilip Ghosh will head the Panchayats and Rural Development and Agricultural Marketing departments, while Agnimitra Paul has been given charge of the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department.
Ashok Kirtania will oversee the Food and Supplies and Cooperation departments, and Khudiram Tudu the Tribal Development, Minority Development and Madrasa Education departments.
Sharadwat Mukherjee has been appointed Health Minister, a move earlier indicated by the Chief Minister during a visit to the Ram Temple in New Town.
Tapas Roy will head the Industry and Commerce, Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Resources, and Public Enterprises and Industrial Reconstruction departments.
Swapan Dasgupta has been given charge of Finance.
Shankar Ghosh has been allotted Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs, while Jagannath Chattopadhyay will oversee Higher Education and Technical Education.
Dipak Barman has been assigned School Education, Housing, and MSME and Textiles.
Dudh Kumar Mondal will head Agriculture, Arjun Singh Labour and Transport, Manoj Oraon Forest and Environment, Ajay Poddar PWD, and Gouri Sankar Ghosh Backward Classes Welfare, Mass Education Extension and Library Services.
Dr Kalyan Chakraborti will oversee IT and Electronics, Science and Technology and Biotechnology, and Food Processing Industries and Horticulture.
Arup Kumar Das has been assigned Irrigation and Waterways.
Among Ministers of State with independent charge, Malati Rava Roy will handle Women and Child Development, Social Welfare, Self-Help Groups and Self-Employment, and Programme Monitoring; Rajesh Mahata Animal Resources Development and Fisheries; and Indranil Khan Youth Services and Sports and Consumer Affairs.
Nabanna also announced portfolios for 19 Ministers of State, including Joyel Murmu (Tribal Development and I&W), Harekrishna Bera (Higher Education), Anandamoy Barman (Finance), Kalita Majhi (Housing), Sumana Sarkar (Health), Bishal Lama (Home), Ashok Dinda (Agricultural Marketing, MSME and Textiles), Nadiar Chand Bauri (PWD and BCW), Santanu Pramanik (Food and Supplies and P&RD), Moumitra Biswas Misra (Industry), Umesh Rai (UD&MA), Purnima Chakraborty (I&CA and Tourism), Gargi Das Ghosh (Power), Biraj Biswas (Law and North Bengal Development), Koushik Chowdhury (School Education and Fire), Bhaskar Bhattacharya (PHE and Labour), Dibakar Gharami (Cooperation, Environment and Forest), Amiya Kisku (Agriculture and Horticulture) and Dipankar Jana (Land and Land Reforms).
Meanwhile, two BJP MLAs, Debanshu Panda and Swati Khandekar, will take oath at the state Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Panda had won from the Falta Assembly Constituency in South 24-Parganas, where a repoll was held on May 21, while Khandekar from Chanditala in Hooghly could not take the oath owing to her hospitalisation after an accident.
