School Recruitment Scam: Calcutta High Court Grants Conditional Bail to Prasanna Roy in ED Case
Justice Jay Sengupta allowed Roy’s release on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and directed him to cooperate with the investigation by appearing before the investigating officer once every week.
The order comes after Roy had already secured bail in the parallel case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Roy is alleged to have acted as an intermediary in the recruitment irregularities that have triggered multiple investigations into appointments made in state-run schools.
He had been in judicial custody in connection with the ED’s money laundering probe arising out of the alleged scam.
The development follows the earlier grant of bail to former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, one of the principal accused in the case.
Chatterjee was arrested by the ED in July 2022 after the agency launched a probe into alleged financial irregularities linked to the recruitment process.
According to investigators, assets reportedly worth nearly Rs 698 crore have been attached during the course of the money laundering investigation.
The attached properties are stated to include assets linked to several accused persons, including Roy, his associates and others allegedly connected to the recruitment network.
The recruitment scam has remained one of the most closely watched corruption cases in West Bengal, with both the ED and CBI continuing their investigations into the alleged irregularities.
