Fake Police Impersonators Allegedly Steal Gold Chain and Ring in Siliguri

MP, June 13, 2026, Siliguri :Fraudsters posing as police personnel allegedly stole a gold chain and ring from a local resident at Ward Number 12 in Siliguri on Friday morning.

According to reports, Ashok Kumar Ghosh was on his way to the market when a man approached him, identified himself as a police officer, and led him into a nearby lane.

The accused warned him about recent incidents of theft and snatching in the city and advised him to remove his gold chain and ring for safety.

Trusting the man, Ghosh removed the ornaments and kept them inside the bag which was with him, as instructed.

Moments later, another individual arrived and appeared to follow the same instructions, handing over a chain to the fake policeman.

Taking advantage of the situation, the fraudsters allegedly swapped Ghosh’s valuables and fled the spot on a motorcycle. Two more accomplices were reportedly waiting nearby.

Realising he had been cheated, Ghosh informed the police.

Officers from Panitanki Outpost reached the spot and have begun examining CCTV footage to identify the accused.

Ward Councillor Basudeb Ghosh condemned the incident and demanded the swift arrest of those involved.
