Facilities at major religious sites in West Bengal to be upgraded, says Suvendu Adhikari

PTI, June 6, 2026, Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday said the BJP government would undertake major development initiatives to upgrade facilities at key religious sites across the state such as the Dakshineswar and Kalighat temples.

Speaking at a programme titled ‘A Celebration of Sanatan Consciousness and the Awakening of Ram Rajya in Banga Bhoomi’, Adhikari also said grand arrangements will be made for the upcoming ‘Srabani Mela’.

“Work has already commenced to elevate the Ganga Sagar Mela to international standards, while facilities at prominent religious landmarks like Dakshineswar and Kalighat will be significantly upgraded,” the CM said.

Adhikari also hit out at the previous Trinamool Congress administration, alleging that West Bengal suffered from “acute lack of employment opportunities and systemic corruption” over the past 15 years.

“There was rampant corruption for the last 15 years, but now things will change. The ‘bhagwa jhanda’ (saffron flags) will fly across Bengal, bringing real transformation,” Adhikari asserted.

The chief minister emphasised that the alignment of the state government with the Centre will accelerate development, as he cited a series of central government projects being implemented in West Bengal to boost employment and infrastructure.
